Associate Safety & Wellbeing

  • Doing what’s right means keeping everyone safe every day and in every task—no matter how big or small. Our focus on safety extends to everyone, including our associates, contractors, customers, business partners, guests, and our communities. We strive to empower everyone at UNFI to be a leader in safety, both in and out of the workplace.

COVID-19 Pandemic

COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on our associates, who play a critical role in the food supply. We quickly adopted robust, enhanced safety measures and policies to protect our frontline associates and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic, including a temporary state of emergency pay increase, attendance flexibility and increased grants through our UNFI Assist associate relief fund.

New Paid Parental Leave

Welcoming a new child into one’s family is often one of the most exciting times of a person’s life. We understand the importance of not missing those special early moments, which is why we offer paid time off for those who are medically unable to work due to pregnancy, who are recovering after giving birth, and for bonding with a new child. Our new Paid Parental Leave program provides 4 weeks of paid parental leave to birth, non-birth, and adoptive parents. This paid leave is in addition to other leaves for which the associate may be eligible, including Short-Term Disability and Family Medical Leave.

Goals & Commitments

  • Strive toward zero injuries in our workplace
  • Support the physical, emotional, financial and social wellbeing of our associates and their families
